5 Faves: Birth, Breastfeeding, and Mothering

In honor of Cinco de Mayo on this lovely 5/5, here’s a list of 5 of my favorite birthy and early parenting Facebook fan pages:

  1. Birthing from Within
  2. Childbirth Connection
  3. Kelly Mom
  4. Attachment Parenting International
  5. Momma Zen

Birthing from Within
Birthing From Within provides books, products, certification programs, and events for anyone interested in childbirth. We are on the cutting edge, offering mindful, compassionate and dynamic childbirth and parenting preparation. Find a wonderful class or doula near you! Take a workshop and change your perspective on what birth can be!

Childbirth Connection
Childbirth Connection promotes safe, effective and satisfying evidence-based maternity care for all women and families.

Kelly Mom
The KellyMom Facebook fan page, an extension of KellyMom.com, is a support area for breastfeeding and gentle, empathic parenting practices. The purpose of this page is to post resources relating to breastfeeding and parenting, and to help bring supporters of breastfeeding and gentle parenting together to discuss these things.

Attachment Parenting International
API promotes parenting practices that create strong, healthy emotional bonds between children and their parents. For life. So they can take those bonds with them into their adult lives and share them with their children. And their children can do the same. A lifecycle of compassion and connection. Through education, support, advocacy and research, API’s principal goal is to heighten global awareness of the profound significance of secure attachment — not only to invest in our children’s bright futures, but to reduce and ultimately prevent emotional and physical mistreatment of children, addiction, crime, behavioral disorders, mental illness, and other outcomes of early unhealthy attachment.

Momma Zen
Karen Maezen Miller calls herself an errant wife, delinquent mother, reluctant dog walker, expert laundress and stationmaster of the full catastrophe. She writes: “I’m also a Zen Buddhist priest and teacher, or sensei, at the Hazy Moon Zen Center in Los Angeles. Don’t let that last part confuse you. I’m not the kind of priest you have pictured in your mind. I’m the kind of priest that looks a lot like you do, doing the same kinds of things you do, every day. If every Tuesday afternoon you wheeled your garbage cans out to the curb and saw your next-door neighbor doing the very same thing, your neighbor would be me. I write about spirituality in everyday life. My newest book is Hand Wash Cold: Care Instructions for an Ordinary Life (New World Library, April 2010). My husband, daughter and I live in Sierra Madre, California, where we have a century-old Japanese garden in our own backyard. We are very lucky. Plus, I do a lot of weeding, raking and picking up after the dog. It helps me not take myself so seriously.”

And I’d be remiss not to mention a bonus page : -) Mamahhh, the fan page for this lil blog right here! xoxox

  1. Thanks for the list, Jenni. I’m past the birthing stage but it’s nice to be reminded of all the useful and thoughtful pro-baby, pro-mama, pro-birthing sites and books out there.
