Write Your Birth Story

Writing Your Birth Story Nashville

I cherish my daughters' birth stories because they are *our* stories, each one an epic tale of mother and daughter meeting for the first time. My daughters love to hear about their birth days -- those sacred events that led to their arrival earthside. I love birth stories, too, so much so that I created a book of them, and created a special section for them here on the {breathe, mama} blog. But I'll be the first to admit that a birth story isn't easy to write! That's why I'm offering a new workshop, Writing Your Birthing Story. {sign up for the birth story workshop below!} My … [Read more...]

For Heaven’s Sake, Try Some Yoga!

Christian Postpartum Yoga

Katie from TLCatholic shares her totally grounded, insightful, and witty experience --and ultimately acceptance-- of yoga as a practice for feeling better in her body and bringing ease into her life. She's so easy to read! And she makes a great point about yoga's helpfulness during the postpartum phase of mothering. Go Ahead, Walk Away

2012-0523_mamahhh_WalkAway

It’s Wishcasting Wednesday over at Jamie Ridler Studios. This week she’s asking, “What are you walking away from?” I have walked away from my yoga mat when the chatter in my mind got too loud and mean. I have walked away from my children when my heart started to blacken with anger that threatened to seep toward my hands. I have walked away from my husband when neither of us could find words that would do anything other than pierce our hearts. And I have returned to each with greater and deeper gratitude. Thank God. That's my prayer and my wish: Thank the heavens and her stars … [Read more...]

2012-0520_mamahhh_BYOB-MAIN2

Yesterday, we talked with mother-of-twins Jess Helle-Morrissey about her experience taking her infant boys to a mama-baby yoga class, called BYOB Bring Your Own Baby, at Blooma in Minneapolis. She shared about the connection to other moms, the thrill of seeing the boys’ weekly development, and getting to know her new-again postpartum body. Today, she’s back to talk about the surprisingly deep esoteric aspects of mama-baby yoga. Jess is a long-time yoga practitioner and a psychotherapist, and in the past year, she’s added doula, yoga teacher, and childbirth educator to that list. “I've been … [Read more...]
